Freshman midfielder Shane Hayes was named a MCLA Scholar Athlete for the 2017 campaign.
There were 165 MCLA student-athletes who qualified for the honor this year in both divisions, which combines both on- and off-field success. Additionally, Hayes was given honorable mention as an all-conference face-off specialist.
“Our players make us proud on the field, but they also provide a huge measure of pride in how well they do in the classroom,” MCLA president Ken Lovic said in a statement. “Our academic standards are as high or higher as any other collegiate athletic organization in the country, and these players represent the best of the best.”
To earn Scholar Athlete recognition, a student-athlete must be named to an all-conference postseason team as well as maintain a cumulative 3.20 grade point average or higher.
